It’s that time of the year: winter is well and truly behind us and we can now look forward to the blossoming days of spring. As we look to the season ahead, there’s no better way to get your home spring-ready than with a seep spring clean and a change of decor. In today’s post in association with our friends at Novell Coffee, we’ll be exploring 5 home and garden tips to help you revamp your home this Bank Holiday and welcome the season with style.

Plus, don't miss your chance to win a £50 Novell Coffee voucher at the end of the article and a discount code for Your Move customers too.

Colour is key

Nothing says spring quite like a beautiful palette of colours. To really let the light in, try switching those sophisticated winter greys and dark-hue blues with brighter seasonal colours like leafy greens, canary yellows and pearly whites. If your room colours are relatively light anyway, try changing up your decor accent colours to create a fresh feel. Inject garden-fresh greens or colourful citrus colours in your wall accents and furnishings for a clean and modern finish. Or use a canary yellow and pearl white colour-combination for a classy finish that will fit into both and contemporary styles.

Flower power

Blossoming flowers are a beautiful spring addition to the home, and are a relatively cheap way to bring some spring sunshine indoors. If you’ve got flowers growing in your garden, why not cut a few outside and place them in a kitchen vase? We love traditional spring flowers like tulips or daffodils, but bring any flowers into your home and you’ll give the space a welcomed spring glow.

An alternative way to embrace flowers this spring is to switch up your decor and bring floral details into smaller home features, such as your pillows and sheets. This will breathe life back into your home and allow you to harness the most popular styles of the season.

Work with your walls

Your walls are the ideal place to get creative and transform your home, so we’d recommend investing some time in updating your walls this Bank Holiday. If your walls are primarily dark, try giving them a lick of paint to update them with lighter colours. One idea interior designers and bloggers love is experimenting with picturesque terrariums - hanging plant pots, essentially. These charming plant options give you a chance to bring greenery into your home if you’re out of surface space, not to mention that they look amazing!

If you own a large collection of wall art, try switching certain pieces around and bringing in some lighter shades and accents to freshen up the space. If you’re feeling bold, why not bring in a colourful wall mural that reflects your personality and oozes spring appeal?

Green fingers

Once you’ve updated your interiors, it’s time to look outside. Longer days give you the perfect chance to get your garden ready for the seasons (and barbecues) ahead, so get out the gardening gloves and give your outside space some much needed TLC. You should start with fixing any larger issues, such as broken fences or worn furniture, which are relatively easy fixes but can make a big difference to the look of your garden.

If you grow flowers, plants, fruits or vegetables then you’ll want to clear up and fix borders and beds - and also think about planting any early spring veg like spinach or peas. Finish preparing the garden for spring by mowing the lawn to neaten up the area.

Clean, clean, clean

Once you’ve finished decorating your interior, it’s time for a much-needed spring clean. From packing away heavy duvets to wiping down the windows, spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a laborious task. Start small and you’ll soon be benefiting from natural sunlight and a fresh-smelling home.
