Valeries GasSafetyIn support of the nationally recognised Gas Safety Week, this week, estate and lettings agent, Your Move, is urging local landlords to become more aware of the implications of having unchecked gas appliances in their rental properties which could not only lead to legal prosecution but also to the significant harm – or even death - of their tenants.

Gas Safety Week,  which is running until 20 September, is co-ordinated by the Gas Safe Register and is an annual initiative launched to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of gas appliances in rented properties, Whilst supported and promoted by retailers, manufacturers and consumer bodies within the gas industry, Your Move is keen to highlight its purpose locally and at the same time provide support and guidance to landlords and tenants who may, as a result of its promotion, be worried about what to do to ensure their gas appliances are safe.

Valerie Bannister, Head of Lettings at Your Move commented:

“At Your Move we are continually advising landlords of their responsibilities to tenants but the Gas Safety Week has provided us with the perfect vehicle to remind them of the importance of  checking their gas appliances as part of this. Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, for example, landlords have key duties to make sure that gas appliances, fittings and flues provided for tenants are safe and that regular annual checks are made by a Gas Safe registered engineer. At Your Move we’re highlighting how we can help landlords in doing this and, at the same time, providing the reassurance that even when this week has ended we’ll still be available to offer advice and guidance on any aspect of letting a property.

Gas Safety is probably a subject that few people will want to consider but the fact that a week is being dedicated to its promotion is evidence, we think, of its importance and why Your Move is also keen to support and promote it.”
