August 2016 - Strong summer performance for Scottish rental properties
Yields continue strong performance
The average gross rental yield for properties in Scotland stood at 5.9% in August 2016. This figure continues to be much higher than levels seen in previous years and is above July’s figure of 5.8%.
Rising house prices and increased demand from tenants have prompted the increase in yields. By comparison, a year ago the average yield was 4.1% while in August 2014 this figure was 4%.
Yields in Scotland also continue to outstrip the returns seen in England and Wales. The average Scottish yield of 5.9% is above the England and Wales average of 4.7% in August.
Even the English region with the highest yields was not able to match this Scottish figure. Properties in the North East of England generated a return of 5.6% in August, still below the figure found across Scotland.
