18miles north-west of Lincoln is the town of Gainsborough. Once the UK’s most inland riverside port, situated on the banks of the River Trent, Gainsborough today offers many lovely riverside walks. Remnants of the town’s industrial past can be found throughout the town, with Marshal’s Yard, a former boiler manufacturing base, now converted into a shopping centre. The town has a fantastic selection of independent shops in Market Square, with local trade continued to be supported by a market held every Tuesday and Saturday. The Gainsborough property market contains a good number of family homes in addition to some well-priced terraces and flats, perfect for first-time buyers.
