Both Winlaton and Blaydon are popular residential towns within easy commute of Newcastle, Gateshead and the Team Valley Trading Estate. Both are served with regular bus services.

Winlaton and Blaydon represent extremely good value for money and therefore demand for property is good. A one bedroom flat is often available from £55,000, whilst the most sought after detached properties could cost upto £600,000. The average three bedroom family sized semi detached property will currently cost around £150,000. A prestigious new development of apartments and town houses centred around the original Axwell Hall are currently under construction with prices starting from £220,000 for a two bedroom apartment.

The demographic of both towns are very similar with approximately 50% of the population being within the 20 to 65 year old bracket. The area is very popular with families due to the good local primary schools and the 'outstanding' St Thomas More Catholic Academy. People brought up in the area tend to stay in the local area.

In close proximity are many historic and interesting places, ranging from the 17th Century Gibside Hall and the Blaydon Burn Belts Corn Mill of a similar date to the local blacksmith buried in St Paul's churchyard known as Coffee Johnny who was immortalized in the famous local song 'Blaydon Races'.

There is a wide range of leisure activities in the Blaydon/Winlaton area. There are two rugby and cricket clubs, a leisure centre that includes swimming pool and gym and a running club. There is a very active art club, local history society and camera club. Lots of activities are held in the local community centres found within the area.

Winlaton and Blaydon border onto Green belt and both are only a short distance from the Derwent Walk Country Park and the Keelman's Way. A short car journey gets you into countryside whether it be Northumbria famous for its castles and stunning beaches or Durham and the Dales. There are frequent buses to both the historic city of Newcastle and one of Europe's largest shopping malls, Gateshead Metro Centre There is also access to the A1 North and South and Newcastle Airport is situated approximately 9 miles away.
