Hemel Hempsted is a large town in the west of Hertfordshire and the south of England more generally. Settlement in the town dates back to at least Roman occupation, with the town becoming a market town and centre of agricultural trade until the Victorian period, at which point it began to act as a dormer-town for commuters to London.
