This year marks the 100th anniversary of Letham Glen in Leven, Fife, a much loved green space along the Scoonie Burn, with events planned throughout the year to celebrate.

The history of Letham Glen

In 1925 a retired farmer called John Letham gifted £1,000 to the local Leven Town Council to secure the space for the good of the public.

His £1,000 was invested by the council and the yearly interest was used to cover the feu-duty.

Hence the space, which had up until then been known as Spinkie Den, was renamed to Letham Glen in his honour.

John Letham continued to support the park in the years that followed, donating a further £600 to aid in the building of the park's now iconic stone entrance gate and railings.

Today the park is still enjoyed by locals with it's wooded paths, formal gardens, benches and bridges - and we have John Letham's initial act of public kindness to thank.
