Why move to Chester-le-Street?
Chester-le-Street is a market town in County Durham steeped in history dating back to 100 A.D. The Roman fort Concangis was occupied until the Romans left Britain in 410 A.D. A group of monks driven out of Lindisfarne then built a church in honour of the late St Cuthbert who was buried there and in time it became the seat of the Bishop of Lindisfarne. Today the church possesses one of the best preserved anchorages in the country.
