New Cross attracts many investors as it is home to Goldsmiths University of London, of Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College and of the Addey & Stanhope School. These institutes bring many students and professionals to the area who are looking to let properties in New Cross.

New Cross is served by two stations, New Cross and New Cross Gate. Both stations are served by London Overground; from New Cross Gate passengers can travel to Crystal Palace and West Croydon to the south and Highbury and Islington to the north. New Cross acts as the termini for the service from Dalston Junction. New Cross also has mainline suburban services operated by South-eastern. Trains generally run north to London Bridge and South to London Victoria, East Croydon and Gatwick airport.

The Haberdashers' Company, one of the City Livery companies developed their lands in New Cross in the last quarter of 19th Century and the development best known now as 'Telegraph Hill' consisted of large semi detached houses aimed at the upper end of the market for commuters who were able to take advantage of train services to London and it is still the case today in the 21st Century! The estate has always had a high reputation with many of the houses having far reaching views.

North of the A2 is a real curate's egg. Things are definitely on the up here in what is now known as the Hatcham Park conservation area. The area has started to smarten up in recent years attracting buyers from outside the area. A few low-rise blocks appeared around the area after the war and today they frequently provide the stepping stone for the first time buyers.

The bars and Inns of New Cross may change their clientele and social standing but at any time there will be a wide variety. The Tavern is bustling with live entertainment where many entertainers, such as Blur, Dire Straits and Squeeze, have cut their teeth on the small stages of SE14.

Although New Cross will undoubtedly absorb it all, the place is receiving more attention as time goes by with new development in the area and the long awaiting extension of the East London Line is here, the rebuilding of the old New Cross Hospital and the pots of money about to be thrown at the place under the new Deal for Communities Scheme should all keep things interesting...not that New Cross is anything but!!
