What the owners say | We received the details for 2 Fairby Grange Cottages in the post on the morning we embarked on a driving holiday in France. We had always been attached to the unusual Oast House buildings that are dotted across the Kent landscape, so when we reached our first overnight stop at Lyon, we reviewed the details and, realising this was one Oast House we could, at a push, afford, we called the estate agent – only to be told that two other parties were interested in the property. After a short discussion, we decided it might be an opportunity too good to miss, so we cancelled our hotel room, got back in the car, and drove through the night so we could view the property the next afternoon. When we arrived on site, the property was in a sorry state. The garden was overgrown with weeds and huge bramble bushes that were taller than we were! The house itself was in no better shape. Windows were rotten, some tiles were missing from the roof, and the inside was little better. We loved it! And offered the full asking price. We have never regretted our decision. It has taken a lot of work to get 2 Fairby Grange Cottages into the condition it is today, but we have, most of the time anyway, enjoyed the process. We have always tried to do what is best for the integrity of the property, and we feel the property has responded to our touch. The house is cool in the summer and (now!) warm in the winter. We like the private and quiet garden and the outdoor space that the property offers. You can park four cars on the drive, and now with us both working from home, the garden office is a major plus as it offers a good working environment and gives that little bit of separation from work and home life. In the summer evenings, it is relaxing to sit in the garden and watch our little bat flitting around the sky. It’s a cliché but are neighbours have become friends – offering help when needed, but always respectful of our privacy and space.More practically, the location offers convenience. We are less than a minute’s walk from the village Post Office, and the Waitrose in Longfield is only fifteen minutes by foot or three minutes in the car, as is Longfield railway station that provides a forty-minute commute into London. For driving, we are only ten minutes for the M25 or M26 motorways. We love this property and never expected to move, but life and circumstances change and now we must hand the reigns over to the next owner. We hope they are as happy at Fairby Grange Cottages as we have been. | ||
