London Renting Guide

London Renting Guide

The London letting market is vast from students and graduates moving to the capital to residents choosing to rent over buying.

With such a large and quick moving market our top tip for renting in London is to act fast.

These are the questions we feel it is important you have addressed so that you are ready to act:

  • Size, location or both
  • Transport and commuting
  • Monthly rent budget and impact on deposit
  • When am I free to view properties

Determining what transport links you are looking for and how you are looking to commute is an important step. Rental prices can increase for properties near tube stations, so can you make the same journey by bus from a property ten minutes away from a tube station or are you happy to have a stroll to your local tube.

Is it all about the location or the size? If it is all about the location with you then you may need to be prepared to compromise on the size of the property you are renting, as rental prices do increase as you move towards central London and so you can get less space for your money. Specific locations of London also demand higher rents than neighbouring areas based on desirability of the location, so we recommend assessing what areas you want to live in as well as the surrounding areas, as again you may get less space for your money in one street than you would ten minutes down the road. If size is the key factor then you may have to understand that you may not be able to live as centrally as you may wish, in which case making sure you have answered the question about transport is important.

Understand how much money you will need up front.

You are likely to require a deposit (often a month and a half rent) and the first month’s rent up front, so when assessing your rental budget try to work out how much you will need up front to rent in London.

Here at YOUR MOVE London we have plenty of available rental properties meaning that we have a great variety of properties to let to suit all types. Our branch teams also try to ensure that we have plenty of viewing slots available to try and make it easier for you while you are hunting for the perfect rental home.

To aid prospective tenants we provide as much information about a property as possible on our website to help you make your decisions.

If you are viewing properties to let that still have the tenant living there try to see past their possessions, current tenants are unlikely to spend the time preparing a property for viewing in the same way as a seller will.

Don’t forget that we are here to help so if you have any questions and want to start arranging property viewings get in touch with your local YOUR MOVE London branch today.
